Exhibition of scanprints “Portal”

Exhibition

The exhibition “Portal” is a visual study of ephemeral identity and the search for human identity. Nine scanograms capture moments of transition – suspended moments between the past and the future. These works act as fragile points of stagnant transformation: not mere images, but fragmented, multi-layered reflections of time, inviting the viewer to confront what is not yet defined. “Portal explores states where identity is in the process of formation. The exhibition frames these transitional states by presenting them as frozen but pulsating moments – aesthetic pauses in which the viewer is invited to pause, look and listen. It is not a static viewing, but a being in between. Each work becomes a mirror – not to show the surface, but to reveal inner states familiar to anyone who has experienced transformation. The exhibition does not seek to provide answers – it invites us to enter between space and its memory, between the self and its transformation, between the past and the future not yet realised.

Scanograms classified as alternative photography are created using an optical scanner. In the scanner, light reflected by a series of mirrors passes through lenses and becomes an electrical pulse that illuminates objects placed on the scanner glass.
The concept of the graphic designer’s work is based on experimentation with light, with the aim of opening up its state not only to the viewer’s visual experience, but also to a sensual, spiritual experience.

In the scanograms, coloured geometric forms – portals – overlap with different textures, the compositions are complemented by elements of the background, and shadows appear (fake).
Using the portals that appear in Klimavičiūtė’s works, the viewer has the opportunity to explore and expand the limits of his/her perception. Therefore, standing in front of the artist’s scantograms, the question arises – will you step into a portal that leads to a space where identity changes?
