Lithuanian Education Museum – exhibition of love letters “Hello, Dear Violeta!”

Have you ever received a handwritten love letter? Or have you written one yourself?
From February 10, 2026, the Lithuanian Education Museum will host an exhibition by the Alytus Regional Museum entitled “Hello, Dear Violeta!”, inviting visitors to open the door to their deepest feelings and touch the sincere, often intimate and emotional love stories preserved in letters.

The title of the exhibition reveals its main focus – a letter written in 1945 by partisan Konstantinas Baliukevičius-Rainis to his childhood friend Violeta, who had been exiled. It is a sensitive yet tragic testimony of unhappy love – they were never destined to meet. Interestingly, an apple blossom has survived alongside this letter… “I am sending <…> an apple blossom, which blooms as beautifully as a queen beneath my window, as a lasting, very lasting memento…”, wrote Kostas.

In addition to love letters, the exhibition also features old postcards, letter-writing manuals, and special literature revealing how people used to be taught to express their feelings in writing. Here, visitors will find a wealth of lessons, recommendations, and even examples of letters adapted to specific situations.
We hope that a visit to the exhibition will not only move you, but also inspire you—perhaps after visiting, you will write a letter to your loved one, a close friend, or even yourself.

The exhibition will be on display in the Art Deco Hall of the Lithuanian Education Museum.
Exhibition dates: February 10, 2026 – March 7, 2026
