Exhibition “Education in Japan”

2026 February 25

The exhibition “Education in Japan” will introduce museum visitors to one of the most advanced education systems in the world, revealing its historical development, current forms, and cultural significance. The Japanese education system is unique in that it is based not only on the transfer of academic knowledge, but also on the cultivation of values, community spirit, and respect for teachers (sensei).

The exhibition will review the development of education in Japan from the Edo period schools, the Meiji reforms that established compulsory education, to modernization, the war period, and post-war changes. Visitors will be able to learn about everyday learning – textbooks, teaching aids, school uniforms, notebooks, as well as cultural symbols such as manga and festive attributes.
The project is implemented by the Lithuanian Education Museum.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
