Family Saturday at the museum: ČIR ČIR spring!
2026 March 7 - 2026 March 7
14:00 - 16:00
The Lithuanian Education Museum’s international exhibition “Education in Japan” invites visitors to take a look at the multi-layered history of education in Japan – from the early teaching centers in temples and the Terakoya and Hankō schools that emerged during the Edo period to the significant reforms of the Meiji period and the “6-3-3-4” education model in use today. This is the first opportunity in Lithuania to learn about Japanese education – one of the most important foundations of this country’s modernization, growth, and progress.
In the history of Japanese education, general academic education has always been accompanied by the cultivation of traditional values. This harmony is revealed in the exhibition through the presentation of traditional Japanese children’s festivals, during which symbols, rituals, and community activities are used to foster a sense of responsibility, discipline, respect, and attentiveness to others in children.
The historical narrative of the exhibition is complemented by authentic exhibits reflecting the culture of learning and education in recent decades. Visitors will see not only the most popular school attributes, such as sailor-style uniforms and traditional Randoseru school bags, but also Japanese educational literature, science magazines for children, and writing and counting tools.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a program of events and educational activities, inviting visitors to learn more about Japanese educational traditions and cultural context.
The exhibition will run from March 18, 2026, to July 26, 2026.
