HALF-DAY SPRING CAMP FOR CHILDREN│ At the Lithuanian Museum of Education
2026 March 30 - 2026 April 3
08:00 - 12:00
The Lithuanian Museum of Education invites you to the first event in the series of activities for the international exhibition “Education in Japan”—a tea ceremony—on March 25, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
About the ceremony
The Japanese tea ceremony (Japanese: sadō/chadō – The Way of Tea) is a traditional art form that has existed for several centuries, carefully preserved, cherished, and often regarded as representative of Japan. During the ceremony, matcha tea is served—a type of green Japanese tea prepared using a specific processing technique and presented in powder form. The matcha powder is poured over hot water and whisked with a bamboo whisk until a light foam forms. However, the Japanese tea ceremony is not just about tea; it is a whole philosophy, a process, a moment frozen in time.
The tea ceremony is imbued with the Wabi-Sabi philosophy of transience, the acceptance of imperfection, and the beauty found therein. To be here and now, to quietly enjoy the moment, to wait for your cup of tea in silence, respect, and togetherness, and finally—to savor the rich, unique flavor of matcha tea. A cup of tea engages all of a person’s senses—smell, hearing, sight, touch, and taste—and together, they clear the mind.
Three stages await you:
I – History, traditions, and customs.
II – A demonstration of an authentic ceremony.
III – An educational session on preparing matcha tea, during which participants can experience the tradition firsthand by preparing and serving tea to one another.
Raimonda Strazdienė studied the art of the tea ceremony in Tokyo under her teacher, Yamada Sensei. R. Strazdienė is a student of the Dai Nihon Gakkai tea school and a representative of this tradition.
The event will take place at the Lithuanian Museum of Education (52 Vytauto Ave., Kaunas)
