Concert-education “M. K. Čiurlionis’ Folk Song Arrangements” and presentation of the publication “Lakštangėlė”

The Lithuanian Education Museum invites you to an event where Lithuanian folk songs, colored with the harmonies of M. K. Čiurlionis, will be presented alongside a new publication.

The concert will feature Lithuanian folk songs harmonized for choir by M. K. Čiurlionis and arranged for young soloists accompanied by piano by Giedrė Virbickienė, a solo singing teacher at the A. Kačanauskas Music School in Kaunas. The teacher has compiled these songs into a new publication entitled Lakštangėlė. The audience will have the opportunity to hear M. K. Čiurlionis’ harmonized Lithuanian folk songs performed for the first time.

Performers – students of solo singing and piano, birbynė (Lithuanian traditional wind instrument) and saxophone at the A. Kačanauskas Music School in Kaunas.
The audience will be involved in the educational part – teacher G. Virbickienė will talk about M. K. Čiurlionis’ childhood and education. The influence of Lithuanian folk songs on M. K. Čiurlionis’ work and their importance in educating young performers will be discussed. Participants in the concert-education will learn M. K. Čiurlionis’ harmonized Lithuanian folk songs and will be able to sing them together with the young performers.

The event will take place on October 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lithuanian Education Museum (Vytauto pr. 52, Kaunas).
