Meeting

2025 August 31 - 2025 August 31

10:00

On the last Sunday of summer, August 31, 2025, we invite you to visit the Lithuanian Museum of Education free of charge!

Currently, the following exhibitions are open to visitors at the museum:

VINCAS RUZGAS MEMORIAL ROOM

In 2005, the memorial room of Vincas Ruzgas (1890–1972) was established in the museum. It showcases the personal belongings, photographs, documents, letters, awards, textbooks, and other exhibits of V. Ruzgas — the founder and long-time director of the museum, director of the V. Kudirka Library-Reading Room, teacher, and author of textbooks. In 2015, the memorial room was renovated and supplemented with newly acquired exhibits from the museum’s collections. In 2021, the memorial room was updated again and moved to new premises.

“FROM THE DEPTHS OF CENTURIES TO US”

Two exhibitions introduce visitors to the development of education in Lithuania from the mention of the first school at Vilnius Cathedral in 1397 up to 1940. This is the museum’s main historical exhibition. In its two halls, alongside the history of pedagogy, visitors can also see how the methods of displaying museum objects have changed over time. Here, you will find both traditional showcases and school diorama illustrations, creating an atmosphere that reflects the spirit of different eras.

OLD VISUAL TEACHING AIDS FOR NATURAL SCIENCES

This exhibition presents visual teaching aids used in Lithuanian schools in the early 20th century, preserved in the collections of the Lithuanian Museum of Education: posters, models, mock-ups, herbariums, and mineral collections. Most of the exhibition is devoted to biology. It highlights branches of biological science: botany (plant posters and structural models), zoology (posters of insects, birds, fish, and other animals), and human anatomy (first aid posters, models of the circulatory system, muscles, and internal organs).

SPOKEN – WRITTEN

This is an interactive, experience-based exhibition designed for live educational activities. Here, visitors can explore ancient means and methods of human communication, still-used forms of interaction, and learn how our world was changed by pictograms, phonetic writing, and computerization. One highlight is the creative “World Discovery Workshop” – a modernized and specially equipped educational space designed for museum learning activities.

Current temporary exhibitions:

  • Exhibition of scenography works by Armanda Klimavičiūtė “PORTALAS”

  • Exhibition from Alytus Local History Museum “Pirma nuotrauka gyvenime”

You are also welcome to visit the Art Deco Salon, the Classroom, and the playful Montessori space!
