VINCO RUZGO MEMORIAL ROOM
In 2005, a memorial room dedicated to Vincas Ruzgas (1890–1972) was established in the museum. It displays the personal belongings, photographs, documents, letters, awards, textbooks, and other exhibits of the museum’s founder and long-time director, director of the V. Kudirka Library and Reading Room, teacher, and textbook author V. Ruzga. In 2015, the memorial room was renovated and supplemented with newly acquired exhibits from the museum’s collections. In 2021, the V. Ruzga memorial room was renovated and moved to new premises.
“FROM THE DEPTHS OF TIME TO THE PRESENT DAY”
Two exhibitions introduce visitors to the development of education in Lithuania from the first school mentioned in connection with Vilnius Cathedral in 1397 to 1940. This is the museum’s main historical exhibition. In addition to the history of pedagogy, the two exhibition halls also reveal the historical changes in the methods of displaying museum exhibits. Here you can find traditional display cases and school illustrations and models, creating an atmosphere that radiates the spirit of different eras.
OLD NATURAL SCIENCE VISUAL TEACHING AIDS
The exhibition presents visual teaching aids used in Lithuanian schools in the early 20th century, which are stored in the collections of the Lithuanian Education Museum: posters, models, herbariums, and mineral collections. Most of the exhibition is devoted to biology. The following branches of biology are highlighted: botany (posters and models of plants and their structure), zoology (posters of insects, birds, fish, and other animals), human anatomy (first aid posters, models of the circulatory system, muscles, and internal organs, models).
SAID – WRITTEN
This is an action-oriented, entertaining and experiential exhibition adapted for live educational activities. Here, you can learn about the old ways and means of communication used by people, find out how pictograms, phonetic writing and computerisation have changed our world. One of them is the creative “World Knowledge Workshop” – a modernly renovated and equipped educational exercise area designed for museum educational activities.
Currently, the museum is hosting an exhibition of drawings by VDA lecturers and students entitled “The Power of Drawing.”
The Art Deco salon, classroom, and playful Montessori space await you!
