Timeless Game: old games for today

🎲 Did you know that games used to be not only a leisure activity for children, but also an important part of adult life? Games were played everywhere – among Lithuanian and Polish nobles, craftsmen and peasants.

In the Timeless Game project, the Lithuanian Museum of Education, together with its Polish partners, the Borderland Foundation, aims to recreate games played in the border regions of Lithuania and Poland between the 14th and 20th centuries, so that they do not remain in the past, but become a living community and cultural phenomenon once again.

📚 Games and toys have been with mankind since the beginning. They have explained the order of life, helped us understand social roles, cemented political ties, developed skills and, quite simply, brought us joy.
Although today we mostly associate games with childhood, throughout history they have also been part of adult life, such as the ‘Blind Chicken’ played by ladies of the nobility in the court of Louis XIV, or the card games that have become a fixture in all social circles.

🧩 The project has already carried out research on historical games, and will soon publish the research in print format in Lithuanian, Polish and English, and will start prototyping the first games – 2 in each partner country.
The project aims to:
✔️ To revive old gaming traditions and adapt them to modern society;
✔️ Promote cultural dialogue, community cooperation and sustainable tourism.
🌍 The project is implemented within the framework of the Interreg Lithuania-Poland Programme, project No LTPT00339 “Timeless Game”
📅 Implementation period.
